Dear lady in front of me in line at Target,
I'm sorry I stuck my tongue out at you behind your back. It's just that when my child was screaming Mommy, I want that big hairband! over and over at the top of her lungs and you glanced down at her with a blank expression, I interpreted it as a hey- loud- and-obnoxious- little-girl-stop-screaming-and-acting-so-spoiled-and-let-me-shop-in -peace-and-why-can't-you-get-her-under-control-you-bad-mom-you glance.
But then when we walked out of the store and you stopped me in the parking lot and told me how beautiful my kids were and gently said to my daughter "Your mommy is doing the best she can" well, I started to feel bad. Really bad.
So, I'm sorry for turning your innocent glance into an evil one. Next time I will be careful not to project thoughts onto others that are, in fact, my own. Thank you for offering your support to a stranger in the Target parking lot. And for not turning around when I was leaning aggressively toward you with my tongue aimed at the back of your head.

I can't believe you stuck your tounge out-that's awesome-in such a ridiculous way. Good Mom is very busy this week.
Oh, haven't we all been there? Screaming kid, embarassed mom, thinking the whole store is judging her parenting skills based on that one moment . . . I used to do that - judge. All it took is a teeny tiny person to make me realize how normal those moments are when you are a parent. God has quite a sense of humor doesn't he?!
However, I do remember I have had someone say "shhhh" to my children. Yes, out loud to them with me standing there. Of course it was Harris Teeter, the cookie and balloon didn't work that day. I honestly thought they were being pretty good is the sad thing.
I should probably just stick to wal-mart where you are aloud to have dirty obnoxious loud children ;)

emily...something new must be going on in your world...your posts normally make me cry because they are so sweet/honest but the last two just made me laugh uncontrollably.
all it takes is one look to set off an already irritated, tired, and struggling mommy. i have felt my eyes almost bug out of my head at staring back sometimes in a rude "what are YOU looking at?!!" look. i'm so glad that she wasn't judging, because sometimes it feels like those people are few and far between. even though, as you said, i'm turing innocent glances into evil ones.
